We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, Winston Churchill.
The First World War was a brutal conflict that was fought on many fronts from August 1914 till November 1918. WWI was the first time the world had been at war, with some of the largest, deadliest and costly battles in history fought during this period. Much of the fighting was concentrated on the Western Front, an area around 450 miles long. In terms of British and Commonwealth soldiers, the loss of life was unthinkable with over a million losing their lives in what would be called The Great War.
The Second World War was a devastating conflict that was fought in many countries around the world from the 1st September 1939 to the 2nd September 1945, it was the largest and most expensive war the world has ever seen. The day after the Gleiwitz incident on 1st September 1939, the Nazi army swept across the border into Poland invading from the north, south, and west. Poland went on to be completely over-run in just over a month. Two days later Britain and France declared war on the Nazis in response to the invasion of Poland. WWII is one of the darkest periods in mankind’s history with the atrocities committed against the Jewish people.Share this tour
